Hidden champion: Liqui Moly chasing records

Liqui Moly boss Ernst Probst promotes social responsibility

For us, the Ulm entrepreneur Ernst Probst is one of the absolute top entrepreneurs who combine economic success with social responsibility. Whether it is Formula 1 presence or support for meals on wheels and care services: Liqui Moly is a Swabian company that has a positive effect far beyond the region.

The balance sheet reads like a miracle at this time: After a record November for the German engine oil and additive producer, the Christmas month follows with another record and an incredible 38 percent increase in sales compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Ulm-based lubricant specialist has taken the right course during the crisis. Ernst Prost, Managing Director of LIQUI MOLY, is right about the anti-cyclical strategy for two record months in a row. November sales were already 26 percent above November 2019. Now December is 38 percent above the same month last year. The company has braced itself against the global crisis with huge investments. The marketing budget has more than doubled, there was no short-time work, and no state aid was claimed. On the contrary: Even during the pandemic, LIQUI MOLY showed itself to be a company with great social responsibility, gave its entire workforce an employment guarantee and an additional € 1500 corona allowance.

There is no answering machine

The co-entrepreneurs, as the employees at LIQUI MOLY are called, were committed to a challenging time. “We work day and night. The crisis is our time to drive away from our competition ”, explains Ernst Prost, who describes his procedure with a seafaring maneuver:“ All hands on deck and full speed ahead! ”. The company attaches particular importance to being there for its customers all over the world. “Now the wheat is separated from the chaff. We are a reliable partner. We don't have an answering machine and none of our customers get an automatically generated answer to an email. Personal, committed service - that's the only thing that counts, ”reports the managing director. That only works with a highly motivated team that pulls together. The managing director knows that it is a tough time for his company and for all business partners. “I can rely 100 percent on my 1000 women and men. I thank them for that. I would also like to thank our customers and partners for their particular loyalty! We could only achieve these record sales together. It's a team effort. "

The company from the Swabian town of Ulm attracted particular attention this year with its offensive strategy. With massive investments in marketing measures, the lubricant producer is even more in the public eye than in all previous years. The company is present on radio, TV, magazines, online and at numerous sporting events such as Formula 1 or winter sports. “We stand out. And that's how it should be. Not only do we benefit from our enormous offensive, but above all the workshops and retailers who make sales with our products. We provide support, so to speak. We have always built up reserves in order to be able to act in difficult times. And that's exactly what we're doing now, ”explains the LIQUI MOLY boss. This strategy obviously worked.

100 employees hired during the crisis

The company hired over 100 people during the crisis. On top of that, in Germany alone, around 5,6 million euros were donated to products for rescue services, first aid organizations, nursing services, “meals on wheels” and many other non-profit organizations. “You know: in a crisis like this we have to stick together. Despite the crisis, our company is doing well and we see it as our responsibility to do our part to make society work. Every emergency vehicle stands still without engine oil. Through our products, the organizations have financial leeway elsewhere. We were able to do our part, ”emphasizes Ernst Prost.

The second record month in a row is no surprise for the managing director. “It is the logical consequence of our courageous approach, the reward for hard work and our solidarity. But the crisis is not yet over. We cannot rest on the 26% plus in November and 38% in December. We will continue to fight together in 2021 ”. The head of the company is confident that he will be able to celebrate further successes and create jobs in the coming year.
