When auto motor und sport calls for the selection of the best design innovations every year, one thing is certain: the readers decide. Not an expert jury, but those who buy cars and say what they like best.
No fewer than five Audi models were awarded this year, while BMW was voted “Best Design Brand of the Year”, a prize to which Mercedes-Benz had previously subscribed and this time it was awarded for “best interior design”. In total, there were more than 100 new models from various manufacturers to choose from. Around 16.000 participants cast their votes in the readers' poll.
Audi has long since developed into a design brand
When Audi chief designer Marc Licht says: “Design is number one at Audi Kaufgrund!” Then he not only knows this from market research, but also from 16.000 voluntary jury members, i.e. readers of the renowned trade journal from Stuttgart. The “Autonis” design award is not just a conceptual one, it is also an indicator of good automotive design year after year. If Audi design has now received five awards, then that is absolutely remarkable. The award-winning Audi models: A1 citycarver, A3, A5, RS 6 and Q3 Sportback.
“Each of these models is part of the Audi family, but at the same time has its own character,” emphasizes chief designer Marc Lichte, who accepted the five trophies on behalf of the entire design team: “At Audi, design is number one As a premium brand, it is extremely important for us that not only are we convinced of the design of our models, but that we also meet the tastes of our customers. With the 'Autonis' you are once again giving us important confirmation. "
BMW best “design brand of the year”
BMW won the title of “Best Design Brand of the Year”, which Mercedes seemed to have firmly booked for itself so far. BMW brand design boss Domagoj Dukec sees it
his strategy confirms: "With iconic features such as the double kidney or the four-eyed face, we are continuing traditions, but we also surprise again and again." In the “Best Interior Design” category, Mercedes remains ahead. “For us, the“ autonis ”is a special price because it comes directly from the readers,” says Hartmut Sinkwitz, Head of Interior Design at Mercedes.
